E-mailing electronic files:
This is a simple procedure that will greatly help speed up the production of your document. When supplying us with a logo, it is preferred that you attach the original file, not a file with the image placed in it (for example, attaching the jpeg of your photo is preferred to sending a Microsoft (R)Word (TM) document with the photo inserted in it).
1. Launch your email program: Open your e-mail program (Netscape (R), AOL (R), Microsoft (R)Explorer (TM)).
2. Start a new message: Click on this link to start a new message to the OABR Print Shop Graphics Department, or start a new message and address it to: pkane@oabr.com
3. Subject line: For your subject, provide a short description of what your electronic files are in reference to (i.e., "Promotional Postcard" or "Fall Club Newsletter")
4. Additional information: Under the body of the e-mail, include any additional information we may need to process your message, such as "M00034.jpg is the photo for 1234 Main Street and M00036.jpg is of 123 Broad Street."
5. Attach files: Depending on your email program, you may have a paper clip or other graphic indicating adding an attachement to your message (usually it will say "attach" or "attachment" or if you slowly move your mouse over the graphics at the top of the open message you will have a pop-up message saying "attachment"). If you cannot find it, go under the file menu. One of the options should be "attach". Click on this.
6. Locating files: A new window will pop up. This window will ask you to point the email program to where the electronic file is located at on your hard drive or in your disk drive. This is no different than when you are opening a document in any other program. When you find the file you want to attach, double click on it and hit o.k. If you have multiple files, you can send them in one message by clicking on the paperclip/attachment button again. If the files are large you may wish to compress them (through zip or stuffit) or send each file in it's own message.
7. Sending the message: Once you have attached the files you want to attach and have indicated in the body of the email message what each file is, you may send the message. Be aware that depending on your email server, type of internet connection, the size of the file(s) and time of day, it may take a little bit to send a message with attachments than a message with only text.
8. Follow-up: If you are placing an order at the same time you are e-mailing electonic files to us, PLEASE follow up with a phone call or fax. We don't want to lose you as a customer because the internet lost your order. Placing contact information in your email message is also a good idea so we can follow up if we have questions.
Good luck and call (402) 493-2995 x 313 if you need additional help!

CAMERA READY ARTWORK & PHOTOGRAPHS

|
This includes any advertisements for Focus or any other jobs that we are not designing. Faxed copies are not acceptable. If mailed, please refrain from folding the artwork. Often, placing a piece of cardboard or chipboard will help protect the artwork from accidential folding in the mail. We prefer to work with an actual hardcopy of a photograph rather than the electonic file. By scanning in the photo on our system, we can ensure the color will match the photo more accurately and that the resoultion of the photo is adequate for the print job (we prefer to use 300-400 dpi images). Many electonic photos supplied to customers are of a low resolution - 72 dpi - which is adequate for websites, but too pixelated for print work. Customers whose photos are on file with their company need to contact their company, obtain the photo and bring it to us with their order. |

ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTS/LAYOUTS |
Logos that the customer does not have electronic copies of need to be camera-ready. This means a high-resolution copy: business card sized logos are not acceptable, nor are faxed copies. Sources can include letterhead, envelopes, brochures, signs. Electonic files are acceptable if it is either a high resolution scan of the logo (see above) or is a vector-based file. The vast majority of logos professionally designed - including those by our printshop - are vector-based. |

TEXT

|
In cases of great text content (resume, brochure, article, forms, etc.) we highly recommend that customers supply their copy pre-typed on a computer disk or emailed to the graphics department. (This is not applicable to business cards or ads where there are only bullet points, etc. for text.) Customers will be charged by the hour* to enter the text into the computer, and the customer will be responsible for any errors missed in the proofing process. Turn around time is increased for text that does not come pre-typed. The graphics department does not create text for brochures, etc.
*We charge layout time in 15 minute increments.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
PERMITS, THE POSTAL SERVICE AND PLANNING AHEAD |
It is the customers responsibility to provide bulk mail permits, phone numbers, addresses, etc. The customer needs to determine what is requird by the U.S. Post Office for mailings, etc. The OABR Print Shop will not make those determinations.
It is the customer’s responsibility at the time of placing the order to come to the OABR Print Shop with all the materials necessary for our graphics department to be able to create aesthetically-pleasing layouts. Please remember: we want your print job to look good, and we like to be proud of the product we produce. Due to the nature of printing, it is recommended customers plan ahead and give us adequate time to produce the product. We can provide customers with an estimate of the time it will take to produce a particular job. This does not include time it is in the hands of the customer for proofing. The actual printing of an order is not scheduled until the final proof is received by the OABR Print Shop! |
